The grasslands of Africa, south of Sahara, receive more rainfall than the main pastoral region of northern Africa and Asia,

China, US, India, Brazil and Turkey are the chief tobacco producers in the world together accounting for more than 50 per cent of the total world production. China alone contributes about 25 per cent.

Sericulture refers to the rearing of silk worms and obtaining silk from them. Sericulture originated in China and the Chinese kept the processes of obtaining silk a secret for about three thousand years.

Cotton is one of the most important cash crops supplying raw material to an extensive textile industry. It is a widely grown crop in areas of warm subtropical climate, typically on the equatorial side of the mid-latitudes.
Among the cotton producing countries the first rank goes to China. The major areas of production in China lie in the floodplains of the major rivers in the northeastern part of the country.

Copper ore and copper metal form an important item of international trade.
The most important importers are developed countries of Europe producing little copper. Germany, UK, France, Japan and India figure as chief importers of copper.
The major exporters are Zaire, Zambia, Chile and Peru. US is the leading exporter of manufactured copper.

The agricultural products account for about 9 per cent of the total value of exports. Within agricultural products, food accounts for the largest share (7.2%) of the total export trade.
